The Princess is looking for her gloves and snow boots. She comes into the kitchen where her father and I are finishing lunch:

Princess: Mom, I can't find my gloves. You need to find them.

Mom: No, I don't. This is your problem, not mine.

Princess: But Mom...

Mom: You are a bright young lady. I'm sure you can solve this problem on your own. Look at your report card. You just received all As!

Didn't they have a find-your-crap* class?

Princess: Yeah and I got an F!

And I wonder why my kids are so sarcastic. If my husband decides to home school the kids, he's going to have a Crap 101 class to teach the kids how to organize, maintain and find their crap.

*We use this term to describe the sundry toys, clothes, papers and other stuff that kids seem to accumulate in large amounts.

Mom: See the red and green stripes? Like a candy cane. It tastes just like candy.Try it.
Hotrod: But it's a pretzel. Yuck, it's a pretzel.

I guess it doesn't matter how you dress up the pretzel, it's still a pretzel to a 4 yearold.

It happened. I didn't think it really would, but it did. I was offered partnership at the firm and I accepted. First female partner here. Youngest by about 15 years. Am I up for the challenge? We'll see.

Hotrod-isms

My soon to be 4 year-old son, "Hotrod", has a very engaging smile and wit. His wording of questions and insights delights me. A few examples--

Princess (his older sister - age 7): Do you want fruit punch for your birthday party, Hotrod?
Hotrod: Yeah, that'd be good. [Leaning conspiratorially towards me] Mom, you be the fruit and I'll be the punch! [Followed by laughter at his own joke.]

Hotrod: [During a fit of stuttering] Mom, I just don't speak too good sometimes.
Mom: That's okay. Your brain is just overloading your mouth.
Hotrod: Yeah, my ideas are fighting to get out.

His sister is very perceptive as well, but not usually as verbally expressive. On Sunday, her father was reminding her that once she finished her veggies, she needed to pick up her toys.
Dad: [After several minutes.] Why haven't you finished your vegggies yet?
Princess: Because then I'll have to pick up my toys. If I don't eat my veggies, then I won't have to pick up my toys, right?
Mom: [To Dad] Well, she's figured that one out, hasn't she?
